Capital Chevrolet/Eoff Bldg. (on Marion St. at Commercial, at the bridge)
- The very difficult traffic situation at Marion and Commercial, at the base of the bridge to West
Salem, resulted in this site being dropped from consideration. Alignment of a facility at the site
was also complicated by the presence of the church on the east half of the block
Frederick & Nelson (on Liberly St. at Chemeketa)
- This site has recently been sold for redevelopment. In addition, it is too small to serve as a
downtown transit center, and is poorly located from the standpoint of access and egress.
Department of Energy (on Church St. between Marion St. and Union St.)
- A new 10 year lease was recently exe~uted on this site. There are also tra~c concerns with the
site bordering on Marion St.
Oddfellows Block (Off High St. between Court St. and State St.)
- This site is occupied by a building which is on the historic register. Under federal rules, such
properties can be redeveloped only if no "prudent and feasible" alternative site exists. Potential
development of the site is beyond the timeline for the project. Additionally, this property was
recently sold, which may affect the availability of the site.
AMTRAK area (the AMTRAK site on 12th St.)
- The AMTRAK site is too small to accommodate the transfer center. Access to the site is also
very limited.
P.G.E. site (north off Division St. between Liberty St. and Broadway)
- This site is well beyond the core area, and is too distant to merit serious consideratioa The site
would be high in operating costs and inconvenient for riders. It has recently been sold and is
slated for new development.
Chamber of Commerce Block (on Cottage St. between Court St. and Chemeketa St.)
- The Chamber site is less than a half-block in size, and is too small for a transit center. The site
was recently purchased by the YMCA for their use.
Union St. North of Parkade (off Union St. between Liberiy St. and Broadway)
- This site is not large enough without taking Union St. as well. The City does not favor closing
Union or substantially realigning its lanes. The site is also located outside the core area.
Ferry/Trade St. west of Commercial
- Sites in this area were too distant from the core of downtown and the Capitol Mall employment
area. Traffic concerns were also a consideration in dropping these sites.
~c:~wr~cErrrER~srrE~vw~
