For Board Meeting of Thursday, December 18,1997
Agenda Item #H.1.b.
RIDERSHIP REPORT
NOVEMBER 1997
Monthly Observations, November: This is an unusual month, in that there were only
19 operating days, as opposed to the usual 22 weekdays in a month. Thus, the total
ridership is somewhat low in appearance, at 294,000+ riders, but the average trips per
weekday remains at a high level, at 13,543 rides.
Nighttime trips are down about 200/day from the peak summertime levels. It will be
interesting to see in December and subsequent months how the new year's nighttime
ridership compares with the levels established in the first year of operation. December
marks the first month that we will be able to begin comparing this-year-to-last. This will
enable us to not only compare night ridership, but will also help us evaluate the growth that
has taken place in the rest of the system.
Saturday ridership is up 42.6% over last year, continuing a strong showing. The last
Saturday of November was up 70% over last year, reflecting a healthy increase in riders
that resulted from the provision of fare-free service as part of this year's Holiday p~omotion.
CherryLift ridership data for the month of November was not available as of this writing. The
ridership figure will be brought to the Board meeting on the 18`h. It's estimated that we will
~ finish the year with a total of about 15,000 ADA trips for 1997, which represents a very solid
level of usage in the first year of the program.
CHERRIOTS - NOVEMBER 1997 1996 ° h n e
Total Trips 294,661 248,240 +18.7%
Year to Date 3,529,998 2,888,349 +22.2%
Average Weekday Trips 13,543 11,074 +22.3%
Average Saturday Trips 7,468 5,238 +42.6%
Average Night Trips 876 0 --
CHERRYLIFT
Total Trips NA 0 --
Year to Date (thru October) 12,954 0 --
153
