SALEM COURTHOUSE SQUARE SECTION 01010 <br />DEMOLITION SCOPE OF WORK <br />lgg~ PAGE 2 OF 8 <br />E. Blasting: Shall not be permitted. <br />F. Protection: Provide the following protective measures: <br />1. Dampen debris to keep down dust and provide temporary construction partitions in existing <br />structures where directed by Owner or Owner's Representative. Blank off ducts and diffusers <br />to prevent circulation of dust into occupied areas dunng construction. <br />G. Demolition and Excavations: Kept free of water and subgrade dry, firm, and undisturbed until <br />approval of permanent work has been received from Owner or Owner's Representative. <br />H. Salvage Items: In accordance with schedule attached to the end of this section. These items are to <br />remain the property of the Marion County. <br />I. Disconnect all utility sErvices prior to demolition. <br />1.5 PROTECTION <br />A. Perform demolition in such manner as to prevent hazards to persons and property; to minimize <br />interference with use of adjacent areas, utilities and structures or interruption of use of such <br />utilities; and to provide free passage to and from such adjacent areas of structures. <br />B. Provide safeguards, including waming signs, barricades, temporary fences, warning lights, and <br />other similar items that are required for protection of all personnel during demolition and removal <br />operations. <br />C. Maintain fences, barricades, lights, and similar protection around exposed excavations and safety <br />hazards until such hazards have been removed. <br />D. Provide temporary facilities necessary to maintain safe conditions for workers, Owner personnel <br />and the general public. Mitigate potential nuisances due to work of ttus Section, including but not <br />limited to dust. <br />1. Control airborne particulate debris and prevent air, noise and water pollution: provide effective <br />means to minimize such nuisances due to demolition work. <br />E. In addition, to general fire and safety require~nents for the work, comply with the following: <br />1. No wall or part of wall shall be permitted to fall outwardly from structures. <br />2 Maintain at least one stairway in each structure in usable condition to highest remaining floor. <br />Maintain all existing stairways for egress from work areas and occupied levels of the parking <br />garage. <br />3. Wherever a cutting torch or other equipment that might cause a fire is used, provide and <br />maintain fire extinguishers nearby ready for immediate use. Instruct all possible users of fire <br />extinguishers. <br />4. Keep hydrants clear and 'accessible at all times. Prohibit obstructions of any kind within a <br />radius of 15 feet of fire hydrants. <br />5. The use of explosives is prohibited. <br />
