SAFETY GLAZING / AT DOOR, The following shall be considered <br /> specific hazardous locations for the purposes of glazing: <br /> Glazing, in an individual fixed or operable panel <br /> adjacent to a door where the nearest vertical edge is <br /> within a 24 inch arc of the door in a closed position <br /> and whose bottom edge is less than 60 inches above <br /> the floor or walking surface, Exception: Safety <br /> glazing is not required when there is an intervening <br /> wall or other permanent barrier between the door and <br /> the glazing, <br />16. SAFETY GLAZING / TUBS, The following shall be considered <br /> specific hazardous locations for the purposes of glazing, <br /> Glazing in doors and enclosures for hot tubs, whirlpools <br /> saunas, steam rooms, bathtubs, showers: glazing in any <br /> part of a building wall enclosing these compartments <br /> where the bottom edge of the glazing is less than 60 <br /> inches above the drain outlet, <br />17. SAFETY GLAZING / LARGE PANE. The following shall be con- <br /> si(~red a specific hazardous loc~tion for the purposes of <br /> glazing. Glazing in an individual fixed or operable pane <br /> that meets all of the following conditions: <br /> 1. Exposed area of an individual pane greater than 9 sq. ft <br /> 2, Bottom edge less than 18 inches above the floor. <br /> 3, Top edge greater than 26 inches above the floor. <br />18, SAFETY GLAZING / LARGE PANE,(Continued, see above condition) <br /> 4. One or more walking surfaces within 36 inches horizon- <br /> tally of the glazing. Exception: In lieu of safety glazing <br /> this specific glazed panel may be protected with a pro- <br /> tective bar installed on the accessble side(s) of the <br /> glazing 26 inches (plus or minus 2 inches) above the floor. <br /> The bar shall be capable of withstanding a horizontal load <br /> of 50 pounds per linear foot without contacting the glass <br /> and be a minimum of 1 1/2 inches in height. <br />19. LANDING / EXTERIOR DOOR, A minimum 2 foot x 3 foot landing <br /> shall be required on each side of an egress door. The floor <br /> or landing shall not be more than 1 and 1/2 inches lower <br /> than the top of the threshold. Exception: The landing at <br /> the exterior doorway s~all not be more than 8 1/4 inches <br /> below the top of the threshold. [Sec. 212.1] <br /> SMOKE DETECTORS / ALTERATIONS. When alterations, repairs or <br /> additions requiring a permit occur, or when sleeping rooms <br /> are added or created, the entire building shall be provided <br /> with smoke detectors located as required for new dwellings; <br /> the smoke detectors shall be interconnected and hard wired, <br /> EXCEPTION: Detectors shall not be reduired to be inter- <br /> connected and hard wired where the alterations, repairs, or <br /> additions do not result in the exposure of electrical wiring <br /> by the removal of interior wall and ceiling finishes, <br /> [Sec. 216.1.1] <br /> SMOKE DETECTORS shall be installed in each sleeping room, <br /> outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate <br /> vicinity of the bedrooms and on each additional story of the <br /> dwelling including basements, All detectors located outside <br /> sleeping rooms shall be interconnected such that the <br /> actuation of one alarm will actuate these alarms in the <br /> individual unit and shall provide an alarm which will be <br /> audible in all sleeping areas, Smoke detectors shall be <br /> 110 volt with batter back-up. [Sec. 316,1] <br /> SMOKE DETECTOR / POWER, In new construction, the required <br /> smoke detectors shall receive their primary power from the <br /> building wiring when such wiring is served from a commercial <br /> source, and when primary power is interrupted, shall receive <br /> power from a battery.
