•
The duration of the exposure and the water pressure are determined by the
exposed area of the specimen and the classification duration being sought.
TEST ASSEMBLY
This test was performed to measure the fire resistance of a non loadbearing
wall assembly, measuring 10 feet and 10 inches in width by 11 feet high,
constructed of the materials and in the manner described herein.
Construction:
The test assembly was constructed on December 6, 1990, by workmen in
the employ of and supervised by the Client, Faswall Concrete Systems,
Augusta, Georgia, and under the observation of the laboratory staff.
The wall was erected with horizontal and vertical reinforcing steel
within the core and channel of the cement-fiber units. The units were
laid in "stretcher" bond in a manner such that the cores were properly
aligned and, when filled with concrete, resulted in a total of 10
interlocked columns and 20 channels within the wall. The concrete was
poured in maximum lifts of 3 courses to ensure that the cores were
properly filled. A lintel was cast and anchored at the top of the
wall. The test sample was restrained by fitting the perimeter of the
test frame with a 2-inch by 2-inch by 1/8-inch thick steel angles.
Construction Materials:
Cement Fiber Units:
The Wallforms (WF) are modular sized cement fiber units units manu-
factured from K-X treated wood pinchips mixed with portland cement
and water. Wallforms are manufactured in double units, measuring
24" x 12" x 9", and triple units, which measure 36" x 12" x 9"
(Figure 4) . The units were manufactured on July 24 and August 7,
1990, respectively.
Reinforcing Steel:
Number 4 (1/2-inch) steel reinforcing bars were used in both the
vertical and horizontal planes of the assembly. Vertical rebars
were used in 5 cores (Figure 5) . The rebars were overlapped approx-
imately one foot on the seventh course from the base. Horizontal
rebars were located in 4 channels equally distributed from bottom to
top of the assembly.
Concrete:
Ready mixed concrete was used to fill the unit cores. The concrete
consisted of 850 pounds of peagravel, 611 pounds of portland cement,
2120 pounds of sand, and 28 gallons of water. This mix will yield a
compressive resistance of more than 3000 psi.
Plaster:
A single scratchcoat of plaster, consisting of 50% white sand and
50% portland cement, mixed with water, was applied on December 19,
1990, by technicians representing the Client. The plaster was
applied at a thickness of 1/4-inch on the exposed face and 3/16 inch
on the unexposed face of the test wall.
COMMERCIAL, TESTI11O COmPpnY
