(M-1006.3) <br /> <br />Water heaters having nonrigid water connections and over 4-feet in <br />height from the base to the top of the tank case shall be anchored or <br />strapped to the building to resist horizontal displacement due to <br />earthquake motion. The allowable span of the lintels shall not <br />exceed the values set forth in Table No. R-503.4.1 of the dwelling code. <br />The lintels shall have a length of bearing of not less than 4 inches. <br />(R-503.4.1) <br /> <br />Masonry veneer shall be attached to the supporting wall with corrosion- <br />resistant metal ties. Veneer ties, if strand wire, shall not be less in <br />thickness than No. 9 U.S. gauge wire and shall have a hook embedded in <br />the mortar joint, or if sheet metal, not less than No. 22 U. s. gauge by <br />7/S-inch corrugated. Each tie shall be spaced not more than 24 inches <br />on center horizontally and shall support not more than 2 square feet of <br />wall area. <br /> <br />Anchor ties of No. 9 gauge or equivalent shall b~ provided in horizontal <br />joint reinforcement wire. The joi~t reinforcement shall be continuous <br />with butt splices between ties permitted. <br /> <br />The wall framing behind the masonry veneer shall comply with R-503.4.2. <br /> <br />~xterior and foundation wall panels of frame construction shall be <br />braced with approved structural sheathing or 1-inch by 4-inch let in <br />braces. Structural sheathing and 1-inch by 4-inch let-in braces shall be <br />installed as per Table No. R-402.10. (R~402.10) <br /> <br />Shearwalls have been designed only for exterior walls which do not <br />comply with the CABO Code requirements for lateral wall bracing in Table <br />No. R-402.10. All remaining walls not designed as shearwalls shall <br />comply with Table NO. R-402.10. In this dwelling the front garage wall, <br />portions of both the front and rear walls have been designed for <br />shearwalls. <br /> <br />Rafters shall be nailed to ceiling joists to form a continuous tie <br />between exterior walls where joist are parallel to the rafters. Where <br />not parallel, rafters shall be tied with a rafter tie, located at or <br />near the plate as practical. Rafter ties shall be spaced not more than 4 <br />feet on center. <br /> <br />A continuous tie is not provided between exterior walls where ceiling <br />jacks (Versalam beams) are installed between the ceiling joists and <br />perpendicularly to the rafters.
