place.Any measurable settling, and any damage caused by said settling, that occurs within one year
after construction is completed, shall be repaired promptly by the Installer at no cost to the Owner.
5.2 Piping and Plumbing
Materials
The following materials, or equivalent, are approved for the purposes of this project:
• Building Sewer(Drainage System)Pipe and Fittings-Type plastic sewer main(PSM)
(PVC),ASTM D-3034 or Schedule 40 PVC or acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) drain,
waste and vent(DWV), as specified on the plans.
• Effluent Sewer Pipe and Fittings-Either type ASTM D-3034, Schedule 40 or PSM PVC
or ABS DWV,as specified on the plans.
• Pressure Pipe and Fittings-Either Schedule 40 or Class 200 PVC 1120 (ASTM D-2241)
or High Density Polyethylene(HDPE) SDR 11,as specified on the plans.
Workmanship
All building sewers, effluent sewers, and force mains shall be placed on a uniformly graded, stable
base of either undisturbed soil, selected soil backfill, or other specified granular material. Each pipe
shall be uniformly supported along its entire length to control settling and stresses during and
following backfill.Unless authorized by the Engineer, thrust blocks shall be installed anywhere a
force main makes a bend greater than 45 degrees.Pipe markings shall be oriented at 12 o'clock to
allow ready inspection after installation, prior to backfill. All gravity building sewers, gravity
effluent sewers, pressure effluent sewers, and manifold piping to each lateral shall be marked with
tracer wire for future reference.
The building sewer shall be laid at a uniform grade no less than 1/8 of an inch fall per foot of run,
unless specified otherwise elsewhere in these plans and specifications, and shall be watertight. The
Installer shall be responsible for obtaining plumbing permits and inspections from the appropriate
local building department, as necessary. Gravity effluent sewers shall be laid at a uniform grade no
less than 4 inches per 100 feet unless specifically called out on the drawings.A minimum of 12
inches of cover shall be provided over horizontal gravity piping after backfill (settled) in areas not
subject to vehicular traffic.A minimum of 30 inches of cover shall be provided over horizontal
pressure piping after backfill(settled) and in areas subject to traffic, unless sleeved in protective
steel or other approved protection. In such cases, all bedding and backfill shall be 3/4-inch minus
crushed rock.An air release/vacuum breaker must be installed at each high point along the force
main if it cannot be laid at a continuous level to uphill grade.Backfill within trenches under asphalt
shall be compacted prior to repaving to prevent subsequent settling.
All gravity and pressure effluent piping shall be watertight. Gravity effluent sewer piping shall be
tested with a minimum of 15 feet of static water pressure. The test will be considered acceptable if
no measurable loss occurs in a 15-minute period(defined as 0.16 gallons per hour, per inch
diameter,per 100 feet).Pressure effluent piping(force mains) shall be tested with water.A
hydrostatic pressure equal to the dead headed pressure of the effluent pumps shall be measured with
a gauge and maintained for 10 minutes with no measurable loss. All testing shall be conducted by
the Installer and verified by the Engineer.
Valley—Albany,OR East Salem Seventh-Day Adventist Church I P&S
Doc:2023240054 East Salem Church PS.docx November 2023 I Page 4
