Mr.Jason Caswell ProNet File No. 47371
State Farm Insurance Company March 15, 2021
Page 9
Main Residence Components
We observed no evidence of fire related damage to various components and structures
around the perimeter of the residence. We consider that the reported damage
involving selected components and appliances within the main residence is consistent
with damage which can occur as a result of power surge events involved with power
outages.
Power surges can often occur either immediately preceding a power outage event or
immediately afterward, upon power restoration at the end of an outage. Power surges
of this nature can damage electrical receptacles, light fixtures, control devices,
electronics, appliances, and/or other devices by subjecting them to overvoltage
conditions. Generally, electronics components are the most susceptible to damage of
this sort. Due to the random nature of power surges and conductive pathways that can
be taken into a residence, not all equipment that is connected to the electrical system
may be affected.
Emergency Generator: We consider that the reported damage to the emergency
generator is consistent with a power surge event.
Automatic Transfer Switch: We consider that the reported damage to the
automatic transfer switch is consistent with a power surge event.
Range: We consider that the observed and reported damage to the range is
consistent with a power surge event.
Dishwasher: We consider that the observed and reported damage to the dishwasher
is consistent with a power surge event.
CONCLUSIONS
Based on the findings and observations as noted in this report, it is our opinion that:
• During September 2020, the Santiam Wildfire burned near the Taylor residence
located at 49930 North Santiam Highway in Idanha, Oregon.
