Mr.Jason Caswell ProNet File No. 47371
State Farm Insurance Company March 15, 2021
Page 3
• The Taylors determined that the wildfire had also encroached very close to the
porch located on the south side of the home. Inside the home, they observed
that some toys (which had been stored on the west side of the home) had
partially melted and a cactus plant had blistered. A roofing contractor advised
that parts of the roof had sustained heat damage. The Taylors also determined
that soot and ash had traveled into the dryer vent on the east side of the home
and contaminated the washer and dryer. They noted that State Farm Insurance
Company had already replaced the washer and dryer as a result of this issue.
• A few months after the wildfire, the Taylors experienced problems involving
operation of the emergency generator and transfer switch (both located on the
east exterior side of the home). These components were advised to have
malfunctioned according to the following:
o On January 13, 2021, the power went out in the home and the emergency
generator came on-line. The generator ran until 6:00 p.m., on January
14, 2021, when it went off-line. Power was not restored to the home
from the utility until 3:00 p.m., on January 15. Mr. Taylor was able to get
the generator to successfully operate from January 13 — 14, 2021, by
doing so in manual mode. While the unit was operating at that time, Mr.
Taylor observed an abnormal and peculiar display on the LCD screen.
o After the emergency generator stopped operating on January 14, 2021,
subsequent attempts to restart the unit failed and the unit has since
remained off-line.
o An electrician was brought to the home to inspect the emergency
generator and transfer switch on January 16, 2021. After inspection, the
electrician determined that both the generator and transfer switch were
damaged and inoperable due to internal component failures and effects
from the wildfire.
• Upon returning to their home at the end of September 2020, the Taylors
determined that other electrical components were no longer functioning correctly
including the range and dishwasher, both located in the kitchen area on the east
side of the home. Mr. Taylor advised that they had experienced a breaker
tripping while trying to operate the range in December 2020.
