<br />Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />Paralegal <br />Class Code: <br />015 <br />Bargaining Unit: 13 - Non-Supervisory <br />MARION COUNTY <br />SALARY RANGE <br />$22.58 - $30.26 Hourly <br />OVERVIEW: <br />FLSA: EEOC: Department: <br /> Non-Exempt 05 ParaprofessionalsMultiple Departments <br />GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES <br />Performs paraprofessional legal work, which requires a high degree of judgment and independent <br />decision-making, including conducting research and drafting documents. Functions as the local area <br />network computer liaison. Performs other work as required. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Works under the general supervision of Legal Counsel, District Attorney or an attorney. Works as part of <br />a team with one or more attorneys. Positions in this class perform duties independently, following <br />established policies. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />Supervision of others is not a normal responsibility of positions in this classification. However, an <br />incumbent may serve as a lead worker over other Paralegal staff or support staff, as required. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED <br />TO THE FOLLOWING: <br />1.Independently conducts substantive research and prepares written legal analysis on federal, state <br />and local legislation and/or procedural, administrative and case law; frequently conducts legislative <br />history and other archival research for attorneys and hearings officers. <br />2.Independently reviews, analyzes and drafts legal documents for use by attorneys; assists <br />attorneys by gathering case information; independently analyzing and interpreting legal and <br />financial documents; drafts administrative orders including statement of fact and conclusions of law <br />for hearings officers. <br />3.Constructs, organizes, maintains and monitors case files for deadlines; investigates and <br />summarizes facts of case for attorney; updates files, determines and initiates necessary <br />documents including petitions, motions, affidavits, orders, discovery, and subpoenas; establishes <br />and maintains computerized files of factual information; uses computer programs to prepare <br />statistical data and reports; maintains contact with and responds to routine questions from parties, <br />witnesses, attorneys, court staff, and others on procedures, claim status, hearing dates, etc. <br />4.Conducts interviews with parties, witnesses, and other interested persons; notifies parties and <br />witnesses of appearances; schedules meetings and depositions. <br />5.Prepares witnesses for court; organizes, categorizes and assures completeness of exhibits, <br />prepares trial notebook; may sit as second chair during trial to manage documents and witnesses <br />and to provide insight and feedback on the proceedings. <br />https://agency.governmentjobs.com/marion/default.cfm?action=specbulletin&ClassSpecID=...8/4/2020 <br /> <br />
