Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br />1.Two (2) years of college course work in civil engineering or civil engineering technology; OR <br />2.Two (2) years of varied technical experience in the field of engineering, surveying, drafting, <br />construction, or traffic engineering operations; OR <br />3.Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to the <br />position. <br />NOTE: Applicants may be required to pass a practical examination to assess certain skill levels required <br />by a particular position. <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />Must possess, or obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Oregon driver's license. Must possess, at <br />> <br />time of hire, and maintain an acceptable driver's record. <br />Must pass a criminal history background investigation. Conviction of a crime may not necessarily <br />> <br />disqualify an individual for this classification. <br />Incumbents responsible for inspection duties must take and pass the Oregon Department of <br />> <br />Transportation (ODOT) Interim Qualified Inspector Certificate/General Inspection Certification and <br />at least one of the following additional certification exams within six-months of hire: Traffic Signal <br />Inspector, Bridge Inspector, Erosion Control Inspector, or HMAC Inspector. <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />Knowledge of: geometry, algebra and elementary trigonometry; basic engineering practices and <br />procedures; drafting, CAD, and plan/map reading; <br />Skills and ability to: use of field and office engineering instruments, especially computers; making drafts, <br />sketches or tracings of maps and plans; make accurate computations; communicate effectively, both <br />orally and in writing; follow written and oral instructions accurately. <br />WORKING CONDITIONS <br />Work is performed in a general office or field environment. Office work includes the use of a computer <br />using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and e-mail programs or programs specific to the <br />position. Fieldwork includes working in a variety of inclement weather conditions, sometimes working in <br />close proximity to roadway traffic. Occasionally may traverse rough and uneven terrain. Must be able to <br />lift and carry up to 20 pounds of equipment.
