Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of >>> MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING 1.Two (2) years of college course work in civil engineering or civil engineering technology; OR 2.Two (2) years of varied technical experience in the field of engineering, surveying, drafting, construction, or traffic engineering operations; OR 3.Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience relevant to the position. NOTE: Applicants may be required to pass a practical examination to assess certain skill levels required by a particular position. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must possess, or obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Oregon driver's license. Must possess, at > time of hire, and maintain an acceptable driver's record. Must pass a criminal history background investigation. Conviction of a crime may not necessarily > disqualify an individual for this classification. Incumbents responsible for inspection duties must take and pass the Oregon Department of > Transportation (ODOT) Interim Qualified Inspector Certificate/General Inspection Certification and at least one of the following additional certification exams within six-months of hire: Traffic Signal Inspector, Bridge Inspector, Erosion Control Inspector, or HMAC Inspector. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of: geometry, algebra and elementary trigonometry; basic engineering practices and procedures; drafting, CAD, and plan/map reading; Skills and ability to: use of field and office engineering instruments, especially computers; making drafts, sketches or tracings of maps and plans; make accurate computations; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; follow written and oral instructions accurately. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed in a general office or field environment. Office work includes the use of a computer using word processing, spreadsheet, database, and e-mail programs or programs specific to the position. Fieldwork includes working in a variety of inclement weather conditions, sometimes working in close proximity to roadway traffic. Occasionally may traverse rough and uneven terrain. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds of equipment. Positions related to construction and data collection may be required to work flexible schedules and long hours throughout the year, particularly during construction season (May through October).
