<br />Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />Evidence Officer <br />Class Code: <br />072 <br />Bargaining Unit: 05 - Marion County Law <br />Enforcement Association <br />MARION COUNTY <br />SALARY RANGE <br />$22.19 - $29.18 Hourly <br />OVERVIEW: <br />FLSA: EEOC: Department: <br />Non-Exempt 03 TechniciansSheriff <br />GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES <br />Retrieves, receives, accounts for, coordinates and distributes or properly disposes of all property and <br />evidence coming under the jurisdiction and custody of the Sheriff's Office; maintains an accurate <br />inventory and chain of custody over all property and evidence in custody; performs other related work as <br />required. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Works under the supervision of the Support Division Supervisor who reviews work for compliance with <br />departmental procedures, general orders and county policies as they relate to evidence and property <br />control. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />Supervision of other employees is not a requirement of positions in this classification; however, may <br />provide occasional lead direction to employees engaged in the performance of various, non-technical <br />work assignments. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED <br />TO THE FOLLOWING: <br />1.Retrieves, receives, inventories and stores evidence and property connected with criminal <br />activities and found property, including diverse property items such as firearms, jewelry and <br />money. <br />2.Responsible for the secure storage of evidence and for ensuring that the chain of custody is clearly <br />maintained when evidence is retrieved, received or is removed from the property room(s). <br />3.Maintains accurate manual and automated inventory control systems and records of all property <br />and evidence. <br />4.Retrieve evidence directly from the crime scene and transports, or directs evidence to be delivered <br />to the crime laboratories; records such transactions to maintain chain of custody. <br />5.Assists detectives and/or deputies with transporting, showing and identifying evidence in court; <br />may testify in court regarding chain of evidence. <br />6.Investigates property for return to rightful owner and returns that property per procedure. <br />7.Works directly with the public, both on the telephone and in person, answering questions about <br />evidence and property being held. <br />8.Creates and maintains detailed records of department property movement and inventories. <br />https://agency.governmentjobs.com/marion/default.cfm?action=specbulletin&ClassSpecID=...8/3/2020 <br /> <br />
