Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />permits, and other licenses where the Sheriff's approval is required.Issues Sheriff deeds on real <br />property, certificates of sale and reviews and drafts other legal instruments with respect to real and <br />personal property. <br />6.Supervises the activities of the civil process unit and criminal records unit including routine and <br />complex processing and serving of documents, assisting the public at the counter, collecting fees, <br />answering questions, typing correspondence and legal documents, other civil and court actions <br />and the conduct of sales of property at public auction. <br />7.Trains staff and deputies in civil processes, record systems, computer usage, policies and <br />procedures, and related areas. <br />8.As required, testifies in court on concealed handgun license revocation petitions and works closely <br />with county legal counsel. <br />MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br />1.Possession of a Bachelor's Degree; AND <br />2.Three (3) years of varied and responsible experience in law enforcement; including one (1) year in <br />civil process and one (1) year of supervisory experience (which may be concurrent); OR <br />3.Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience relevant to the <br />position. <br />SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS <br />Possession of, or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire, a valid Class C Oregon driver's license. <br />> <br /> This requirement may be modified under exceptional circumstances. <br />Applicants must be free of criminal conviction, except for minor traffic violations, and will be subject <br />> <br />to a background investigation by the Sheriff's Office. <br />Persons in this classification must be able to meet the physical demands of the job. <br />> <br />Must have the ability to acquire certification from the Department of Police Safety Standards and <br />> <br />Training (DPSST) civil school within one year, and become LEDS certified within 60 days of <br />appointment. <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />Thorough knowledge of: laws relating to the responsibility of the County Sheriff in civil processes; <br />knowledge of supervisory methods and practices; knowledge of records management practices and <br />procedures; <br />Skill and ability in: accurately processing civil instruments; dealing firmly but courteously with the public; <br />instructing subordinate personnel in policies, procedures and practices; detecting errors on written <br />documents; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with elected officials, staff and <br />the public; training others; ability to effectively supervise others in the performance of civil process <br />activities; managing within an union environment; testifying in a court of law; strong oral and written <br />communication skills; and drafting legislative concepts. <br />ADOPTED: <br />06/87 <br />REVISED: <br />03/90; 12/97; 07/10 <br />https://agency.governmentjobs.com/marion/default.cfm?action=specbulletin&ClassSpecID=...8/3/2020 <br /> <br />
