March 31, 1998 <br />~~ <br />Memo To: T6e Special Pro,ject Oversight Committee <br />From: Joha Whittington <br />Project Coordinator, Salem Transit District <br />Subject: Transit Square Footage Analysis <br />BACKGROUND <br />The question has been posed by the oversight committee concerning the prop <br />square footage for transit functions at Courthouse Square, relative to the pres <br />facilities and space needs. In the words of the committee's interim report of 1~ <br />"SPOC is concerned that Transit has not demonstrated a need for the amount <br />space it has listed in the program information and has indicated on the plan." <br />The following information is presented with the intent of providing the n~ <br />and to clarify the space needs of the various functions of the District. Prc <br />was conducted by the project architect, Arbuckle Costic, based upon the <br />developed by transit staff. <br />Information provided to the oversight committee previously gave the incorre <br />that the District would be moving into spaces which would be as much as tri~ <br />current spaces. While Cowthouse Square will provide substantially more roa <br />and administrative needs than is cturently contained in t~ansit spaces, much a <br />is related to increases in the size of public areas (waiting room, public restroc <br />expansion in the transit operator and supervisor areas. We expect to see tran <br />increase by 200%-300% over the next 25 years, stimulating a nced for much <br />areas and significantly more transit operators than is the case today.
