In working with the building commissioning process, we don't want to push the county into a
building without the building being ready. MMDC has worked on past project$ where portions
~ of the building are occupied before completion of the project. The possibility is'',there if we need
to utilize it.
Dave was not so sure that dropping from P 1 to P2 is that easy to say that we coluld still keep on
schedule with our completion date. Once more information was known, it could be determined.
Randy stated that the completion date would be important in marketing the lease space and
working with TI's for this space, an~ a firm date will help in the planning of marketing the leased
space in the project. '
Bryon would like to meet with Leonard and Dave to go through the scope and spec documents to
get everyone on the same page. It would be helpful to resolve conflicts and get leveryone closer
to a total GMP. They met this week on mechanical and had a very prod~ctive meeting.
Meetings will be scheduled for 9:00 AM on Thursday mornings starting on Ju~y lOt'', and will
include Bryon, MMDC; Leonard, Arbuckle Costic; and Dave, Pence/Kelly.', They will be
looking at all disciplines for the scope and spec phase and Leonard will set ~p the agenda.
MMDC will send some boiler plate performance specs to look at as well as stand~ards. Dave will
continue to update the schedule on a weekly basis.
Staton Construction demolition schedule was discussed next. Kathleen ha~ a meeting on
Thursday morning and went through items that are taking place. They are right ~on, if not ahead
~ of schedule. Kathleen will report each week on their progress and fax a copy o~ the schedule to
Craig. The crane will be on-site on Tuesday. The process will use a wreckin$ ball for upper
stories. With regard to the issue of dust, they will use a water hose to keep dust down. It was
suggested that the Statesman Journal be notified as a possible PR photo oppo~tunity. It was
reported that signs are posted on the corners of High and Court showing the re~ycling effort to
date: 2110 tons at 89% recycling. fhe great brick giveaway has been very suc essful and five
20-yard trucks of brick have been given away. It has great PR value as well as d~fraying costs of
$300-500 per truckload to haul away.
Kathleen reported that they have run into a couple of problems: 1. An 8" wellj casing was left
too high above ground and needed to be sawed off, locked, and sealed. Beca~se of its size it
could be a potential hazard to small animals and children. 2. Unauthorized a~mittance to the
site. They have a check-in list at the construction site office (NW corn~r of High and
Chemeketa) and very few people are using it. If anyone from the Design Te~ goes on site,
please sign in at the office. This is a construction site, and you are required to , ear a hard hat
while in the construction zone work area. '
We have been uncovering interesting discoveries in the demolition process. Thei discovery of a
fuel station was made in the one story senator complex (old Jr. Bootery area). ~VVe suspected it
was there, and historically knew it was there. Kathleen took photos and the St~tesman Journal
was also there. The coloring on the walls look like an old chevron station. We ~also discovered
an old parking garage with the names still on the parking stalls. Randy added th~t the Statesman
~ Journal's interest is in documenting the discovery of the historical background of the building as
it is torn down, not necessarily environmental issues. We are finding some ir~teresting things
behind the walls as we progress with demolition.
