Information from Sue McCracken <br />October 1998 <br />Marion County, Oregon, was established on 7uly 5, 1843, one of the first four counties created by <br />the Provisional Government, 16 years before statehood in 1859. He was <br />named director of the Health Department in 1986 and served in that capacity until his appointment <br />as acting county administrator in April 1998. The county administrator directs and coordinates <br />the overall operational and financial ma.nagement of the county in accordance with policies set by <br />the Board of County Commissioners and coordinates local and regional intergovernmental <br />projects involving Marion County. He hold a masters degree in Social Work from the University <br />of Denver and a BS in Social Science from Oregon State University. <br />~chael J. Hansen, County Counsel, was appointed in 1995 after serving as an assistant legal <br />counsel since 1982. Prior to that time he was in private legal practice for five years after being <br />admitted to the Oregon State Bar in 1977. He holds JD degree from Willamette University <br />College of Law, an MA from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, and a BA from St. <br />Martin's College, Olympia, Washington. <br />
