pRELIMINARY SITE STUDIES : EVALUATION NOTES
TYpICAL PARKING DECK
The last diagram illustrates a typical parking deck
configuration. In this case it is the Washington
Mutual Block, however a similar deck could be
constructed above the transit center on any of the
four blocks being considered. This shows that about
130 parking spaces can be developed, and if the
principle is no net loss of parking then the use of the
roof or deck for replacing this parking may be
necessary. The City of Salem has experienced
approx. $9,000 per space in their development of
parking structures. We suggest $10,000 for budget
purposes.
An elevator is required, to meet the ADA and
accessibility code. Stairs are required for fire
exiting. There was discussion at the Advisory
Committee meetings regarding the potential of
connecting to the Salem Downtown Skywalk system,
which would enhance the convenience of
uninterrupted, climate controlled, pedestrian access
to the center from other parts of downtown core, at
least when the skywalk is open during retail hours.
A 2 way vehicular access ramp is therefore required.
This can be a 90 ft. diam spiral, about the same
dimensions as a typical residendal cul de sac
turnaround, or can be a straight ramp, but these get
very long. The diagram show the ramp sharing space
with the gas stadon.
3 FALCON Architecture & P/anning
