.
the maiUcopy center.
• . MaiVCopy room: The restroom adjacent to the hearing room is available for use by
maiVcopy room staff. An eyewash and sink will be provided in the work area. A card
access door will be added in the corridor to control access to the mail room. Staff will
need to make provisions for non-building employees and vendors to access the area for
delivery and pickup. Mirrors can be added, at owner expense, to improve vision clearance
any where in the building.
Restrooms: The restrooms on each floor are open to the public. The ground floor
restrooms will receive higher use by nature of their accessibility. At this time, no special
security procedures have been suggested to control or monitor restroom activities.
Dumpsters: The dumpsters will be in an enclosed area. The location is being revised, but
the area will be properly ventilated.
Buzzers/Alarms: Special buzzers and alarms will be added at owner expense after the
building is occupied. Half doors or gates can also be added to control public access to
work areas. The alarms will not ring to a police or security desk. They are intended to
alert other department employees of a problem. A paging system can also be installed
using the existing phone system.
Card access doors: Several departments expressed concerns that secondary doors off
• the corridors were not secure and could permit unauthorized public access. All doors off
the public corridors to department offices will be fitted with locks. Additional doors off
the east-west corridors will be fitted with card access locks. For code reasons, a locking
card access door cannot be included adjacent to the main floor lobbies at the entrance to
the east-west conidors. Facilities Management will be identifying the doors subject to
locks and card access.
. Glass security walis: A policy decision has been made not to enclose reception areas
with glass security walls. Reception areas will be designed with barriers, half walls and
security doors that restrict public access to office areas.
. Security policy review: Many of the security issues will need to be readdressed after
occupancy. It is recommended that a security committee be established representing all
building tenants. The committee will evaluate operational and security issues.
Security consultant: It has been recommended that the county hire a security consultant
to help design and implement a security plan for Courthouse Square. The project
development team does not support the hiring of a consultant at this time. One of the
reasons for this decision is lack of funding. If a consultant is hired in the future, a source
of funding will need to be identified outside the project budget. It is also recommended
that countywide security issues be identified rather than focusing on one building.
~
