Initialed
SALEM COURTHOUSE SQUARE
Abatement and Demolition
Addendum # 1
1. Should contractors submit a separate submittal form for a submittal combining both
asbestos abatement and demolition or will a separate submittal form be provided?
Contractors should submit their proposals on the forms provided via this addendum.
2. Is the timeline of 6 to 8 weeks for the total project combined and overlapping or for each
contractor consecutively?
Both aspects of the project are to be completed within the timeline. Abatement must be
coordinated with the demolition contractor to meet the timeline. A new timeline has been
established. Start date is estimated to be April 15, 1997, contractors are asked to submit proposals
for completion of both aspects of this project with two options.
Option one (1) completion within 60 days,
Option two (2) within 90 days.
3. Will the demolition contractor incur liquidated damages if held up by the abatement
contractor? Who would incur the cost, Marion County or the abatement contractor?
Yes, the demolition contractor will be responsible to work with the project manager to control the
timelines.
4. Is the amount of $600.00 per day liquidated damages a suf~icient deterrent to keep the job
on a strict time line?
Based upon the timeline established via the process in item 3 above, liquidated damages will be
assessed in the following manner:
$600.00 Per day for the first 3 days after established completion date
$1,000.00 Per day for day 4, 5, and 6 after established completion date
$1,500.00 Per day for days 7, 8, and 9 after established completion date
$2,000.00 Per day for day 10 and each day thereafter
5. The noise levels were thought to be to strict and at realistically unattainable levels for this
type of project. County specified levels be raised to the federal OSHA standards of 85DB.
with the exceptions of spike levels possibly exceeding these limits after normal public
working hours? (When and how could waiver be granted for exceeding 85db for certain
tasks?)
Answer will be provided as soon as possible.
Courthouse Squaze Project
Amendment #1
March 24, 1997
