~ 03%1S/98 la_O1 $5035383526 CORRECTIONS w'C ~~~ PERSONNEL ~003/009
Releaee date: Ha=oR 13~ 1998 Copieai Tel 375 5399
INTERIM REPORT TO TRANSIT DISTRICT AND COUNTY
OF SPECIAL PROJECT OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE
March 13, 1998
The Special Project Oversight Committee {SPOC) appreciates the
cooperation provided by Marion County (county} and the Salem Area
Mass Transit District (Transit or district) to datE. Mr Wasson and
Mr Whittington have worked hard to assist us in our task. At this
time, SPOC is not prepared to issue a final report concern~ng
whether the project should or should not go forward. However,
SPOC has made these preli~inary findings and other determinations:
1. Al1 SPOC reports will be presented in writing. This is
the first such report.
2. At this time, SPOC is not convinced that the Courthouse
Square project should be terminated. And because SPOC needs
additional information, it is not convinced that the project should
go f orward .
3. The county needs additional otfice space, in part because
af the needs of the Circuit Court. Consolidation of county office
space in one location would create some efficienciES, although no
effort has been made by the county to quantify such efficiencies
monetarily or otherwise.
4. SPOC has not considered whether any other existing
faciiity is appropriate for consolidation of county offices.
5. Transit has received notice from the City of Salem to
remove its bus exchange from the current High Street location.
1
