The data included in the preceding charts clearly indicates that the county has experienced
considerable growth in the last 25 yeazs. In addition, the growth of the state court system and
our commitment to providing for their space needs, means that additional office space will be
required. In a letter dated December 4, 1997, James Murchison Court Administrator,
reconfirmed the courts need for additional space in the Courthouse.
The Plan:
Upon completion of the W.E. Group and the Facility Steering Committee reports in 1995, the
county had affirmed its need for llQ000 nsf of office space in the downtown core area. In
1997, the county's space estimates were reevaluated and aze reflected in chart #5 below. Whether or not Courthouse
Square is the most cost effective solution will not be addressed in this report. However, given
the benefits and needs noted above, the cunent plan calis for the consolidation of the following:
1. County of~ices located on the Senator Block, with the exception of Public Works
2. Replacement office space for departments vacating the Courthouse
3. Office space for departments currently leasing in the downtown area
4.
