6. UNDERFLOOR VENTILATION. Provide at least 1 square foot of underfloor ventilation for <br />each 1500 square feet of crawl space area. The openings shall be covered with a corrosion <br />resistant wire mesh. At least one such opening shall be provided within 3 feet of each comer of <br />the building. Vents may be omitted on one side. [Sec. 409.1] <br /> <br />?. CRAWL HOLE. Provide an access crawl hole to the underfloor space. The minimum size <br />opening required is 18 inches by 24 inches. [Sec. 409.2] <br /> <br />8. THE STRUCTURAL SUPPORTS for decks, balconies, porches or similar structures shall be <br />pressure-treated wood to protect against decay. [Sec. 322.1 .] <br /> <br />THE VAULTED CEILING area is required to be insulated to a minimum of R-30. <br /> Twoapproved methods are: <br /> A. Provide R-30 insulation, a complete vapor barrier, and a minimum of <br /> one inch clear air space above the insulation for ventilation. Each pay <br /> shall be cress ventilated. <br /> B. Completely fill each bay with a minimum of (non-compressed) R-30 <br /> insulation, leaving no airspace. Provide a complete vapor barrier. The <br /> perimeter of the insulated area shall have an airtight barrier (i.e tight <br /> blocking). This method, while permissible, may void the warranty on the <br /> roof sheathing and roofing matedal because of excessive heat buildup. <br /> <br />1.0. ATTIC VENTS. Provide screened attic vents with a net free area of 1/150 of the attic area. <br />(or 1/300 if between 50 and 80% of required area is ventilators in the upper portion of the attic <br />and located at least 3 feet above eave or cornice vents. As an alternative, install a 4 mil vapor <br />barrier on the warm side of the ceiling. [Sec. 806.2]. <br /> <br />1][. ATTIC ACCESS. A readily accessible attic access shall be provided to any attic area <br />having a clear height of over 30 inches. A framed opening not less than 22 inches by 30 inches <br />is required. [Sec. 807.1 <br /> <br />12. OPENINGS BETWEEN the garage and residence shall be equipped with either solid wood <br />doors not less than 1 3/8 inches in thickness or 20-minute fire rated doors. [Sec. 309.1] <br /> <br />13. THE GARAGE shall be separated from the dwelling and its attic area by means of 1/2-inch <br />gypsum beard applied to the garage side of the wall. Where the separation is a floor-ceiling <br />assembly, the structure supporting the separation shall be protected by 1/2-inch gypsum board or <br />equivalent. The door between the garage and residence shall be equipped with solid wood doors <br />not less than 1 3/8 inches in thickness or 20-minute fire rated, or equivalent. [Sec. 309,1,309.2] <br /> <br />14, ENCLOSED ACCESSIBLE SPACE under stairs shall have walls and soffits protected on <br />the enclosed side with 1/2 inch gypsum board. [Sec. 310.3] <br /> <br />15o STAIRWAYS shall not be less than 36 inches in clear width at all points between the <br />handrail height and the required minimum headroom of 6 feet 8 inches. Minimum width from the <br />handrail down is 32 inches with one handrail, 28 inches with two. The minimum required stair <br />tread width is 9 inches. The maximum stair [ise is 8 inches. When Hsers are closed, all treads <br />less than 10 inches shall have a uniform nosing between 3/4 inches and 1 1/4 inches. The <br />greatest dser height/tread depth shall not exceed the smallest by more than 3/8 inch. [Sec. <br />314.1,314.2, 314.2.1,314.3] <br /> <br /> <br />
