At the top, the extension shall <br />be parallel with the floor or ground surface. At the bottom, the handrail shall continue to slope for <br />a distance of the width ofune tread from the bottom riser. The remainder of the extension shall be <br />horizontal. Handra'fl extensions shall comply with ADAAG figure 19. <br />The clear space between the handrails and the wall shall be 1-1/2 inches. <br />Gripping surfaces shall be uninterrupted by newel posts, other construction elements or <br />obstructions. <br />Top of handr~d gripping surface shall be mounted between 34 inches and 38 inches above stair - <br />nosing. <br />Ends of handrails shall be returned to the floor, wall or post. <br />Hendrails shall not rotate within their fittings. (1109.8.6) <br /> <br />Stair nosing shall be flush and rounded to a radius of ~ inch maximum. Risers shall be sloped, or the <br />undemide of the nosing shall have an angle of not less than 60 degrees fi.om the horizontal. Nosing shall <br />project no more than 1-1/2 inches. (1109.8.3) <br /> <br />Stair nosing and treads shall have a slip resistance surface (1109.8.4) <br /> <br />Exposed stairways and their approaches shall be constructed to prevent the accumulation of water on <br />walking surfaces. (1109.8.5) <br /> <br />Toilet room floors shall have a smooth, hard, nonabsorbent, surface such as portland cement, concrete, <br />ceramic tile or other approved mater/al which extends upward onto the walls at least 5 inches. (807.1.1) <br /> <br />Walls within 2 feet of the from and sides of urinals and water closets shall have a smooth, hard, <br />nonabsorbent surface such as portland cement, concrete, ceramic tile or other smooth, hard nonabsorbent <br />surface to a height of 4 feet, and except for stmetoral elements, the materials used in such walls shall be of <br />a type which is not adversely affected by moisture. (807.1.2) EXCEPTIONS: 1. Dwelling units and <br />guest rooms. 2.
