P~e2 <br /> <br />4. <br /> <br />10. <br /> <br />11. <br /> <br />12. <br /> <br />13. <br /> <br />14. <br /> <br />Exit signs shall be internally or externally illuminated with two electric lamps or shall be of an approved <br />self-luminous type. Current supply to one of the lamps for exit signs shall be provided by the premises' <br />wiring system. Power to the other lamp shall bo fi'om storage batteries or an un-site generator sot and the <br />system shall be installed in accordance with the Electrical Cede. (1013.3 & 1013.4) <br /> <br />Because there will be no public access to the second floor (as per the plans), an elevator is not required at <br />this time. However, all the facilities and elements located on the second floor shall be accessible as <br />required by chapter 11 of the Structural Speciality Code. <br /> <br />The fu-st floor shall be fully accessible. <br /> <br />When exit doors are used in pairs and approved automatic flush bolts are used, the door leaf having the <br />automatic flush bolts shall have no door knob or surface-mouated hardware. The unlatching of any leaf <br />shall not require more than one operation. (1004.3) <br /> <br />Exit doors shah be open able from the inside without the use of a key or any special knowledge or effort. <br /> EXCEPTION: In Group B, F, M & S Occupancies, key-locking hardware may <br /> be used on the main exit when the main exit consists of a single door or pair of <br /> doors if there is a readily visible, durable sign on or adjacent to the door stating <br /> THIS DOOR MUST REMAIN UNLOCKED DURING BUSINESS HOURS. <br /> The sign shall be in letters not less than 1" high on a contrasting background. <br /> When unlocked, the single door or both leaves of a pair of doors must be flee to <br /> swing without operation of any latching device. The use of this exception may <br /> be revoked by the building official for due cause. (1004.3 Exception) <br /> <br />Door labeled "4" on the plans if located within 6" of the final grade shall be accessible without a step, as <br />shown on the plans. <br /> <br />If there will be a closer on the door labeled "4", t here needs to be 12 "of clearance between the door edge <br />and the perpendicular wall on the interior latch side. <br /> <br />There shall be a floor or landing on each side ora door. When access for persons with disabilities is <br />required by Chapter 11, the floor or land'mg shall not be more than ~ inch lower than the threshold of the <br />doorway except for exterior sliding doors which shall not exceed 3/4 inches. Raised thresholds and floor <br />level changes at accessible doorways shall be beveled with a slope no greater than 1 unit vertical in 2 units <br />horizontal. Landings shall be level except for exterior landings, which may have a slope not to exceed 1/4 <br />inch per foot. (1109.9.5 & 1109.4.3) <br /> <br />Handles, pulls, latches, locks and other operating devices on doors, windows, cabinets, plumbing fixtures <br />and storage facilities shall have lever or other shape permitt'mg operation by wrist or arm pressure and not <br />requiring tight grasping, pinching or twisting to operate. The force required to activate such equipment <br />shall be no greater than 5 pounds-force. (1109.3) Doors shall comply with Section 1109.9 oftbe 1994 <br />U.B.C. <br /> <br />Both sets of stairs shall be accesssible. (1109.8) <br /> <br />Stairway shall have handrails on both sides of the stairs. Handrails shall comply with Section 1109.10. I 1 <br />and shall have the following features: <br />1. Hendr'ails shall be continuous along both sides of the stairs. The inside handrail on switchback or <br /> dogleg stairs shall always be continuous. <br /> <br /> <br />
