The proposed retaining wall will be built at the high watermark, approximately 18-20
feet above the median water level. The wall will be erected out of "Iq' piling placed at
10' on centers. These "H" piling will be 40' in length and driven 25'to 30' into the
ground. This will be installed by Tom Bemert with Joe Bemert Towing out of
Wilsonville. Tom Bemert will install these pilings by utilizing his crane and barge from
the river.

Once the pilings are installed, four foot high reinforced conorete wall sections will be
inserted between the pilings. The panels will be stacked two to three Mgh for a
maximum height Of 12'. Tom Berne, rt will then backfill the wall with rock.

The area above the retaining wall will then be planted with natural vegetation to stabilize
the bank and return it to its natural state. Below the retaining wall there will be no
change in the natural vegetation.

Many other options have been considered inoluding embedding rock into the bank
directly, using gamb/ans, building a wood and rock wall. Replanting the slope with new
vegetation was considered. The option of doing nothing was also considered. None of
these options will provide long ta~-a, stability to insure the protection of the property and
the residence from future high water and landslides.

The impact on the river will be minimal. No pilings will be driven into the water.
Without the proposed wall, additional erosion and landslides may occur which would
deposit more soil and vegetation into the river. By placing drain rock at the bottom of
thc backfill ground water will pass through the wall while ~he soil substrate will remain
intact.

This proposal is th~ same system that is being utilized by several neighbors with the
identical conditions.

I have obtained a signed consent from neighbors indicating they do not object to the
proposed retaining wall in hopes of expediting the approval by your office.

If you or your staff have any questions please contact me at any of the above listed
numbers.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
