(Appendix 3501(a)) [103(a)] <br /> <br />All such separating walls and floor-ceiling assemblies shall provide an <br />airborne sound insulation equal to that required to meet a Sound <br />Transmission Class (STO) of 50. <br /> <br />Penetrations or openings in construction assemblies for piping, electrical <br />devices, recessed cabinets, bathtubs, soffits, Or heating, ventilating or <br />exhaust ducts shall be sealed, lined, insulated or otherwise treated to <br />maintain the required ratings. <br /> <br />The rise of every step in a stairway shall be not less than 4 inches nor <br />greater than 7 inches. The run shall be not less than 11 inches as <br />measured horizontally between the vertical planes of the furthermost <br />projection of adjacent treads. The largest tread run or riser height <br />within any flight of stairs shall not exceed the smallest by more than <br />3/8 inch. (3306(c)) <br /> <br />Stairways shall have handrails on each side. The hand grip portion of <br />handrails shall be not less than 1 1/2 inches nor more thas 2 inches in <br />cross-sectional dimension or the shape shall provide an equivalent <br />gripping surface. Mandrails shall be between 34 and 38 inches above the <br />nosing of treads. They shall be continuous the full length of the stairs. <br />Ends shall extend not less than 6 inches beyond the top and bottom risers <br />and be returned or terminate, in newel posts or safety terminals. <br />(3306(i)) <br /> <br />Open sides of steirways and landings more than 30 inches above grade shall <br />be protected by a guardrail not less than 42 inches in height. The top of <br />guardrails for stairways, exclusive of their landings may have a height as <br />specified in Section 3306(j) for handrails. (Not less than 34 inches nor <br />more than 38 inches.) O~en stair railings and guardrails shall have <br />intermediate rails or an ornamental pattern such that an object ~ inches <br />in diameter cannot pass through. (12 inch diameter sphere where a stairway <br />for a commercial or industrial-type occupancy is not accessiDle to the <br />public.) (1712) <br /> <br />Safety glazing material shall be installed in doors and in locations <br />within a R4-inc~ arq of either vertical edge of the door in a closed <br />position. (5406(d)6) <br /> <br />This site, building and facilities are required to be accessible to and <br />useable by the physical/y handicapped.
