Where mirrors, towel fixtures and other toilet <br />and bathroom accessories are provided, at least one of each shall be <br />accessible. (3108) <br /> <br />When existing buildings and their related facilities are renovated, <br />altered or modified, they shall have any existing architectural barriers <br />removed in part or in total to a cost not to exceed 25 percent of the <br />total project cost, inclusive of the cost of eliminating architectural <br />barriers. (3112) <br /> <br />In choosing which accessible elements to provide, priority should be given <br />to those elements that will provide the greatest access, in the following <br /> <br /> Accessible parking. <br /> <br /> At least one accessible restroom for each sex or a single <br /> <br /> Accessible telephones. <br /> Accessible drinking fountains. <br /> <br /> and alarms. (3112) <br /> <br />8. The maximum slope of a ramp on an accessible route is 1 vertical to 12 <br /> horizontal. The ra~p shall be at least 36 inches in clear width. <br /> Landings shall be provide top and bottom of each run. Landings shall be <br /> level and have a minimum dimension measured in the direction of ramp run <br /> of not less than 60 inches. The maximum rise between landings for any <br /> ramp run shall be 30 inches. Handrails, as required for stairs, shall be <br /> provided on ramps having slopes steeper than i vertical to 20 horizontal. <br /> Ramps and Landings with drop-offs shall have curbs, walls or projecting <br /> surfaces that prevent people from slipping off the ramp. Curbs shall be <br /> at least 2 inches high and/or extended platforms shall be at l~ast 12 <br /> inches wide. Ramps on accessible routes shall have a slip resistance with <br /> a static coefficient of friction of 0.8. (3109(g)) <br /> <br />9. The underside of stair nosings shall not be abrupt. The radius of <br /> curvature at the leading edge of the tread shall be no greater than 1/2 <br /> inch. Risers shall be sloped or the underside of the nosing shall have an <br /> angle not less than 60 degrees from the horizontal. Nosings shall project <br /> no more than 1-1/2 inches. (3109(h)3 & Figure 18) Open. risers shall not <br /> be permitted. (3109(h)2) <br /> <br />Approval of submitted plans is not an approval of omissions or oversights by this <br />office or of noncompliance with any applicable regulations of local government. <br /> <br />This project may be subject to the architectural standards of the Americans with <br />Disabilities Act Of 1990 (ADA). Issuance of a building permit does not certify <br />compliance with this Federal Statute. Copies of the guidelines and information <br />concerning the ADA may be obtained from the Architectural and Transportation <br />Barriers Compliance Board, 1-202-653-7834 (Voice/TDD) or 1-800 USA-ABLE. Failure <br />to comply with the ADA may result in Federal Fines and penalties. <br /> <br /> <br />
