The run shall be not less than 11 inches as <br />measured horizontally between the vertical planes of the furthermost <br />projection of adjacent treads. The largest tread run or riser height <br />within any flight of stairs shall not exceed the smallest by more than <br />3/8 inch. (3306(c)) <br /> <br />Stairways shall have handrails on each side. The hand grip portion of <br />handrails shall be not less than 1 1/2 inches nor more than 2 inches in <br />cross-sectional dimension or the shape shall provide an equivalent <br />gripping surface. Handrails shall be between 34 and 38 inches above the <br />nosing of treads. They shall be continuous the full length of the stairs. <br />Ends shall extend not less than 6 inches beyond the top and bottom risers <br />and be returned or terminate in newel posts or safety terminals. <br />(3306(i)) <br /> <br />Ail unenclosed floor and roof openings, open and glazed sides of <br />stairways, landings and ramps, balconies or porches which are more than 30 <br />inches above grade or floor below, and roofs used for other than service <br />of the building shall be protected by a guardrail. <br /> <br />Guardrails in areas accessible to the public shall be not less than <br />42-inche~ in height. The open space between the intermediate or <br />ornamental pattern of guardrails shall be such that a 4-inch diameter <br />sphere cannot pass through. (1712) <br /> <br />A sign shall be posted for each accessible parking space.
