Page 2 7. Every sleeping room shall have at least one operable window approved for emergency egress or rescue. The window sill height shall not be more than 44 inches above the floor. The minimum net clear opening width dimension shall be 20 inches. The minimum net opening height shall be 24 inches. The minimum net clear opening area shall be at least 5.7 square feet. (R-210.2) 8. Openings between the garage and residence shall be equipped with either solid wood doors not less than 1 3/8 inches in thickness or 20-minute fire rated doors, or equivalent. (R-209.1) 9. Smoke detectors shall be installed outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms and on each additional story of the dwelling including basements. In dwelling units with split levels, a smoke detector need be installed only on the upper level, provided the lower level is less than one full story below the upper level, except that if there is a door between levels then a detector is required on each level. All detectors shall be interconnected such that the actuation of one alarm will actuate all the alarms in the individual unit and shall provide an alarm which will be audible in all sleeping areas. (R-215.1) 10. In new construction, required smoke detectors shall receive their primary power from the building wiring and when primary power is interrupted, shall receive power from a battery. (R-215.2) 11. Roof trusses are required to be designed by an Oregon registered Engineer or Architect. For trusses manufactured by an approved fabrication plant~ have the design and layout drawings available at the construction site for the framing inspection. All job site cutting or modification of the roof trusses shall be clearly shown in the engineer's design calculations and drawings. If trusses are to be built at the job site, submit the engineer's design and construction plans to the Marion County Building Department prior to start of construction and have the approved drawings available at the site for the framing inspection. 12, Water heaters having nonrigid water connections and over 4-feet in height from the base to the top of the tank case shall be anchored or strapped to the building to resist horizontal displacement due to earthquake motion. Reviews or inspections presuming to give authority to violate or cancel the provisions of the dwelling code or of other ordinances of the jurisdiction shall not be valid.
