Plans have been reviewed for compliance with the provisions of the <br />Oregon state Structural specialty Code ('91 UBC) 1993 Edition. <br /> <br />Plans need to be of sufficient clarity to indicate the location, nature and <br />extent of the work proposed and show in detail that it will conform to the <br />provisions of the State of Oregon codes and all relevant laws, ordinances~ <br />rules and regulations. Plans need to be drawn to scale. (302(d)) <br /> <br />The rise of every step in a stairway shall be not less than 4 inches nor <br />greater than 7 inches. The run shall be not less than 11 inches as <br />measured horizontally between the vertical planes of the furthermost <br />projection of adjacent treads. The largest tread run or riser height <br />within any flight of stairs shall not exceed the smallest by more than <br />3/8 inch. (3306(c)) <br /> <br />Stairways shall have handrails on each side. The hand grip portion of <br />handrails shall be not less than 1 1/2 inches nor more than 2 inches in <br />cross-sectional dimension or the shape shall provide an equivalent <br />gripping surface. Handrails shall be between 34 and 38 inches above the <br />nosing of treads. They shall be continuous the full length of the <br />stairs. Ends shall extend not less than 12 £nches beyond the top and <br />bottom risers and be returned or terminate in newel posts or safety <br />terminals. (3306(i)) <br /> <br />Open sides of stairways and landings more than 30 inches above grade <br />shall be protected by a guardrail not less than 42 inches in height. <br />The top of guardrails for stairways, exclusive of their landings may <br />have a height as specified in Section 3306(j) for handrails. (Not less <br />than 34 inches nor more than 38 inches.)
