Types of Trusses: There ar? three basic types of trusses spe- <br />cified in the Uniform Building Code Standards <br /> <br />(1) <br /> <br />Metal Plate Connector type. See Section 2510(h). <br />These plates must be designed to UBC Standard 2517, <br />part V. Manufacturers of metal plate trusses are <br />required to have a quality control inspection <br />program. The inspection program is to cover all <br />phases of the truss manufacturing process. (See <br />Sec. 2510(h)). <br /> <br />(2) <br /> <br />Plywood gusseted..trusses are built up members <br />having glued.or nailed joints and are regulated by <br />Section 2510(f)and 2513. The plywood gussets <br />must be designed to comply with UBC Standard <br />25-18, Part V, and 25-19 on gluelng. These <br />trusses are required to have a quality control <br />inspection program (UBC Standard 25-18(25). Nails <br />must comply with UBC 25-17, part III. <br /> <br />(3) <br /> <br />Bolted trusses are regulated under Structural <br />Specialty Code Section 2510 and UBC Standard 2517, <br />Part I. Manufacturers of bolted trusses, under <br />25.1739 of the UBC Standards are required to have <br />a quality control inspection program to cover all <br />phases of the truss manufacturing process. <br /> <br />Answer to Question 4: Code Section 302(b) states, in part, <br />" .... the.building official shall requlre plans and specifications <br />prepared andldesigned by an engineer or archltect~licensed by the <br />state to practice as such. <br /> "...EXCEPTION 2 Plans=and.specifications prepared and <br /> designed by an engfneer~or architect ~licensed by the state to <br /> practice as such:are~not required fo£ the following workpro- <br /> vided the building official.determines that.the, work is not <br /> of a highly technical, nature or there,,is nc.unreasonable., <br /> potential risk to 1lie and/or safety, of the.structure: <br /> "A. Where-the erection,.enlargement or alteration <br /> of,any building,.or any appurtenance thereto, at <br /> or to the building,has a ground.!:area of 4,000 <br /> square feet,or:~less and,:is not more<than 20 feet <br /> in height from,the,top.surface of, the lowest <br /> flooring to the highest interior overhead finish <br /> (ORS 671~030) <br /> "B..If the,building, is to be used for a single <br /> family residential building or a farm building or <br /> auxiliary to a single family dwelling or farm <br /> building. ,, <br /> #C. For alterations or repaiss to a building when <br /> the structural part or parts ~f the building are <br /> not involved." <br /> <br /> <br />
