MARION COUNTY
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

Courthouse, Salem, Oregou 97501-3670

~03~8-5212

December l~,

COMMISSIONERS
Gary Reef, Chalrma~
ILa~dall Frauke
Garry K~az
~MINIST~E
OFFICER
Ken ~dybu~h

Mr. Jay Erickson
EMCO Enterprises
P.O. Box 535
Detroit, OR 97342

Dear J~Ly:

I am sorry to be getting back to you so late. I am just trying to
clear up some of the communications and correspondence from this year
and your letter seemed to have "dropped through the cracks". I apol-
ogize for the delay.

As I remember the problem, and I am looking at background from our
staff, we are discussing plans for 30-foot trusses that you were
denied with the suggestion that they be shortened to 15 feet. Our
Director of Environmental Services has indicated that you came to see
Don Woodley, Jim Trussell and also the Director on several occasions.
Apparently, from what I understand, there was a satisfactory solution
worked out. Also, it appears that staff have bent over backwards to
accommodate you but they cannot, nor will they, hire an engineer to
solve that particular problem. Their willingness to work with the
public cannot include design of a structure. That has to be your
responsibility. As we discussed, Jay, we are trying to work out a
system by which we can "uniform" this or scale it down so it will be
much easier. By the time you get this letter, we probably will have
worked that out and you will have already built your building.

I look forward to any comments you might have concerning this matter
or suggestions of a way in which these plans might be processed more
simply. Thank you for your concern.

Sincer~
