49930 N Santiam Hwy SE SITE VISIT REPORT
Idanha, OR 97350-9503 State Farm Claim No. 37-11K4-75P
5. HOUSE — JOINTS IN HARDIE SIDING
The exterior walls of the House appear to be clad with fiber-cement Hardie
products (or similar brand), which are primarily cement and have performance
characteristics similar to brick, stucco, and stone. Hardie products have a flame
spread index of zero (0). For wildfire risk reduction, the National Fire Protection
Association (NFPA) and USDA Forest Service recommend fire-resistant siding such as
fiber-cement (e.g. Hardie products), plaster, or stucco. (They also recommend fire-
rated roofing such as metal, concrete, clay tiles, or composite shingles.)
The House siding consists of HardiePlank lap siding from the foundation up to
the soffit/ceiling level, and the gables and soffits are clad with HardiePanel boards.
Most joints appear to have been caulked originally. There were a few
photos received from Brandi Taylor which show exterior siding joints of the House,
but I am not able to make a definitive comparison of before-and-after of the same
joints, with similar resolution, angle, and lighting between the before-and-after
photos. The pair of photos below are perhaps the 'best' example currently available,
being from the same angle on the East side of the House. The siding joints can be
seen in both photos. The individual detailed conditions of the joints from both before
and after cannot be determined, however they do look similar.
