Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />5.Assists with case preparation for court hearings or trials; prepares case history explanations and <br />month to month debt calculations; testifies at judicial hearings as to reasoning for conclusions and <br />other relevant information. Initiates bail intercept and personal and real property liens. <br />6.Responds to case inquiries and resolves complaints; explains status of case and reasons for <br />initiated actions; clarifies amounts subject to withholding and garnishments; clarifies amounts and <br />calculation of arrearages. Investigates facts, applies facts to applicable law, processes, monitors <br />for response and follows-up with appropriate action. Communicates with other states via interstate <br />computer network and directly through mail and telephone. <br />MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: <br />EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING <br />1.Graduation from high school supplemented by course work or training in collections, legal <br />assistant, or a related field; AND two (2) years of increasingly responsible paralegal or collections <br />experience, OR <br />2.Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience relevant to the <br />position. <br />KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES <br />Working knowledge of: Federal and State statutes, regulations, rules, policies, procedures, and <br />processes regarding support and enforcement; interview and negotiation techniques; arithmetic; <br />collection techniques; legal processes and procedures. <br />Ability to: effectively communicate in both oral and written form; effectively represent the agency in <br />administrative hearings and to present testimony at administrative and judicial proceedings; interview and <br />negotiate with people from various socioeconomic backgrounds who may be uncooperative and/or <br />hostile; obtain facts and initiate appropriate administrative or judicial legal actions to collect child support; <br />resolve discrepancies and provide case information; exercise judgment and discretion in applying rules <br />and policies; read legal documents; collect and organize data; perform arithmetic calculations to compute <br />payments of arrearages and determine total assets; establish and maintain effective, cooperative and <br />professional working relationships with the public, attorneys, other agencies and co-workers; operate a <br />personal computer. <br />ADOPTED: <br />06/96 <br />REVISED: <br />02/02; 12/06; 11/18 <br />MARKET REVIEW: <br />01/12; 11/18; 07/20 <br />https://agency.governmentjobs.com/marion/default.cfm?action=specbulletin&ClassSpecID=...8/4/2020 <br />
