appropriate sample containers. The analytical parameters and other details are specified in Table 1 and
Form 6.
Samples of the septic tank effluent should represent the screened effluent being pumped to the treatment
unit. Samples can be collected as the effluent is being pumped to the FAST unit from the surge dosing
tank as described below.
Septictank effluent samples can be collected using the following steps:
1. Use a 3/16-inch hex key to remove the stainless steel bolts from the fiberglass lid over the inlet
end of the FAST tank.
2. Place a small diameter sample container within the inlet pipe and allow it to fill while a pump is
running
3. Remove the container and transfer to a laboratory-supplied sample bottle and attach the cap
securely.
4. Repeat for additional bottles,if necessary.
5. Note the date and time of sample collection on each bottle and make the appropriate entries on
any associated forms required by the laboratory(chain of custody).
6. Immediately place the bottle(s)in a cooler with ice and transport to the laboratory.
Samples of the treated effluent should represent the effluent flowing to the drainfield from the outlet end
of the FAST tank as described below.
Treated effluent samples can be collected using the following steps:
1. In
addition to the documentation outlined previously, maintain a copy of all receipts regarding septic tank
pumping on file.
A
CES-Albany,OR St.Innocent Winery and Tasting Room 0&M Manual
Doc:2018240028 St.Innocent Winery OM BTR May 2018 I Page 9
