<br />Marion County Class Specification BulletinPage of <br />>>> <br />Veterinary Technician <br />Class Code: <br />127 <br />Bargaining Unit: 06 - Marion County Employees <br />Association <br />MARION COUNTY <br />Established Date: Jun 1, 2005 <br />Revision Date: Jun 6, 2018 <br />SALARY RANGE <br />$20.32 - $27.20 Hourly <br />OVERVIEW: <br />FLSAEEOCDepartment <br />: Non-Exempt : 03 Technicians : Community Services <br />GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES <br />To perform a variety of technical and semi-skilled work essential to the function of Marion County Dog <br />Services to include medical evaluation, administer vaccines, maintain appropriate records, perform <br />animal euthanasia, microchipping, carries out shelter veterinarian directives, and perform related duties <br />as assigned. Work requires flexible hours that may include weekend scheduling. <br />SUPERVISION RECEIVED <br />Works under the general supervision of the Shelter Operations Manager who assigns and outlines work <br />and inspects results for compliance with laws and regulations governing the control, protection, and <br />licensing of dogs. <br />SUPERVISION EXERCISED <br />Supervision of employees is not a responsibility of positions in this classification. However, incumbent <br />may act as lead worker over employees and volunteers including the reviewing of work, organizing, <br />planning and scheduling work assignments, and providing training as it relates to medical needs of the <br />shelter. <br />DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS <br />The Veterinary Shelter Technician ensures the proper care, feeding, and medical treatment of dogs in the <br />animal shelter. Incumbents provide paraprofessional veterinary care to dogs and are certified by the <br />State to perform euthanasia. The Veterinary Technician differs from the Shelter Technician, which does <br />not provide veterinary care. It also differs from the Dog Control Officer, which performs field enforcement <br />of animal regulation laws. <br />EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - DUTIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED <br />TO THE FOLLOWING: <br />1.Cares for and monitors health of dogs in a kennel setting; provides food and water appropriate to <br />type and condition of animal; exercises, bathes and grooms animals; provides input on dog <br />evaluations for potential fostering, transfer, adoption and euthanasia.
