more publicly accessible location. The current facility is around 8,500 square feet
but dces not have adequate staff space, has inefficient functional relationships
~ (one department to another), lacks file and storage space, and does not have
adequate staff break facilities. Once the move is completed, the current facility
will be used for Transit Operations, staff training, and archive storage. The space
in Courthouse Square is proposed to be located on the second floor, directly above
the Transit Services and Transit Retail space.
Transit Expansion 2,709 sq.f~
Courthouse Squaze provides enough expansion space to accommodate future
needs for more office space for at least the next 25 years. Some or all of this
space may be leased to other users with procec`s being used for transit purposes.
This space is also located on the second floor adjacent to the Transit
Administrative Office space.
Bus Mall 66,824 sq.ft.
The bus mall provides weather protected parking for 22 buses, as well as weather
protected, outdoor waiting and pedestrian areas adjacent to the indoor customer
service azea. Buses are parked in a sawtooth design so they can easily enter and
depart their designated space without interference with or from other buses.
Buses will enter and depart, half each on High Street and Church Street.
~ Designated bus slots have been pre-designed with consideration to most often
used transfers, and incoming and outgoing directions. Once in use, no buses will
need to move through downtown on Court Street. Coordinated signalization will
be placed on High Street at Chemeketa and at Court; and on Church Street at
Chemeketa and at Court. Customer safety and convenience considerations are
being investigated such as visual and sound warnings of bus movement, security
cameras, tactile surfaces and signage, reader board, public address system, and
others. It has also been proposed that moveable gates be installed which will
secure the entire mall area during non-operating hours.
Summary
Transit's portion of the project, excluding the Bus Mall, encompasses 26,884
square feet in the south building. In addition, we will purchase 40 completed
parking spaces from the County and share, to whatever extent necessary, in the
streetscape and Hatfield Plaza costs. The Board has taken action to approve this
allocation of space for transit's facilities in Courthouse Squaze.
• Does the Board approve of the budget for the transit facilities in Courthouse
Square?
BUDGET
~
