Courthouse Squaze Project) 256 High Street, Salem and USTC No. 24-90-4028 Chevron 1008 595 Court Street NE, Salem Marion County Risk-Based Closure - No Further Action (NFA) Letter Dear Mr. Wasson: ~~ "~ o ~ c~ D t~~,, :~ ~ 3 ~~~~ _.~,~,~_r.t]llf~;TY ~Q.~..r~e-.~ The Departrnent of Environmental Quality (Department or DEQ) has completed the review of your site files, including the latest report entitled Remedial Action Report Construction Phase, dated November 1999, submitted on your behalf by Century West Engineering (CWE). This report pertains to the site investigation and remediation work conducted during the initial phase of construction on the 2.5-acre site located in downtown Salem. The properiy encompassed an entire city block, bounded on the north by Chemeketa Street, on the east by Church Street, on the south by Court Street, and on the west by High Street (Section 22 and 27, Township 7 South, Range 3 West). The information in the file included the following: 1) On February 5, 1997, the Department was notified of a petroleum release at the site. Marion County asked that any future releases discovered at this address be covered under the same release number (24-97-4016) for simplicity, and the Department agreed. The DEQ USTC file # 24-90-4028, which was assigned to a release that was reported on February 26, 1990, at the Chevron site located on the southeast portion of the block, pre-dates this agreement. However, because Marion County later purchased the property from Chevron, that file and cleanup are included in this closure letter. DEQ/WVR-1018-97 ~
