Approve contract with Century West Engineering Corp. <br />REGULAR AGENDA ITEM FOR MAY 7, 1997 <br />ISSLTE ONE: Shall the Board of Commissioners grant an exemption pursuant to Section 8 <br />of the local public contract review board rules because an emergency exists that may result in <br />a substantial risk of loss and interruption of services? <br />ISSUE TWO: Shall the Board of Commissioners approve a contract with Century West <br />Engineering Corporation for environmental engineering services in connection with the <br />Courthouse Square project? <br />BACKGROUND: Courthouse Square, Inc., has acted as an a~ent for Marion County in <br />contracting with Century West Engitleering Corpoi-ation as of September 17, 1996, to <br />provide environmental engineering services necessary for redevelopment of the Senator <br />Block as Courthouse Square. These services have included testing and reporting of <br />environmental conditions on the Senator Biock, assisting with cotitracting for and monitoring <br />of abatement of hazardous materials in existing buildings, and planning for environmental <br />remediation of the block. <br />Marion County has agreed with Courthouse Square, Inc., to contra~t directly with <br />Century West Engineering Corporation, assumil~g all responsibilities and rights back to the <br />date of the original contract, September 17, 1996. This agreement has been reached to <br />overcome unforeseen difficulties in reaching an agreement for project coordination services <br />with CSI. <br />Marion County is in the midst of redevelopment of the block.
