• s
observations (petroleum staining, depth to groundwater, and odor) and the PID results will be used
to select a maximum of two soil samples from each boring for laboratory analyses. If there is no field
evidence of contamination in a particular investigative boring, only one soil sample will be collected
near the water table for analysis.
Soil samples will be labeled to reflect the sample location, depth, and time of collection, placed into
a cooler with ice, and transported under chain-of-custody conditions to an analytical laboratory
certified by the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). All soil samples will be analyzed for
total petroleum hydrocarbons - gasoline range (TPH-Gx) and total petroleum hydrocarbons - diesel
range (TPH-Dx). The six soil samples with the highest petroleum hydrocarbon concentrations will
be further analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTE~ and polynuclear aromatic
hydrocarbons (PAHs). In addition, if gasoline is detected, the two soil samples with the highest TPH-
Gx concentrations will be analyzed for EDB/EDC and total lead. The detection limits for all analyses
will be less than the RBCA Tier I cleanup levels. The maximum number of analyses to be completed
on the soil samples, including one field duplicate, is summarized in the following table:
SUIL SAMPLIl~G
~,nialysis I Number ot
Sam !es*
TPH-Gx 13
TPH-Dx 13
PAHs 7
BTEX 7
EDB/EDC 2
Total Lead 2
*Number of samples assumes that a
maximum of 6 investigative borings will be
completed to delineate the extent of
contamination.
The drill augers and sampling equipment will be decontaminated between borings. The soil cuttings
will be placed in labeled and secure 55-gallon drums.
Task 3 Reporting
Century West will prepare a report upon completion of the field activities. The report will include
a summary of the subsurface investigation, analytical results, conclusions, and recommendations.
Copies of the chain-of-custody documentation, laboratory data sheets, and boring logs will be
included in the report as appendices.
