From: PHILIP MILES
To: M-EDISON.RCURTIS
Date: 5/6/98 2:10pm
Subject: Archives and Ch2 -Reply
Since you have indicated that the departments have provided for storage of their active records within
their planned space needs, I won't address ihat aspect. And lhe County Archives will be able to handle
the normal office records as they are retired to inactive storage, prior to their destruction or permanent
archiving. (Housing the County Archives is the Courthouse Square would not be necessarily or a good
use of such prime space.)
However, I would recommend that space be ailocated for the storage of backup electronic storage
media: ie. tapes, CD's etc. that must be stored physically separate from ihe data center or the various
offices that might have their own file servers. Access to these backup media would be very frequent.
This space shouid be in a fire proof room or vault, climate controlled Temp approx. 60 - 65 F, humidity
50-GO%. I would also recommend Halogen fire suppressant system (not water). The space could also be
used to store security microfilm.
You may want to check wilh Data Center as to the size storage space they think they'll need for the
county departments in the foreseeable future. But I shouldn't think it would be much more than 20' x 30'.
(And currently, the County's security microfilm only takes up about 15 sq feei of storage space.)
CC: ADAVIDSON
