'T1~e contract calls for basements to be slope-Slled
with rubble far site safetY P~Poses, pending a subsequent bid/convacting far site r~xxcavation.
Under the origin~l develapnlent plans, the sito was to h~ve been e~coavated down to
approximately 25' below gr~tde, for construction of a two-floos parking garage•
Our de~velopmeat team has refined the project desi,g~n to climinate a large number of parking
spaces, with the result that a single-flaar parldng SaraBe will suffice. We see tbis as a very
positive c,l~ange' with the Potent~al to ssve si~c~nt1Y ~n project costs_ The plan aow is to
exa~vate to a depth of only 12' -
It make$ mu~h more senSe for us to have Staton Construction chan,ge their work to tear dawn
basemern walls and remove all rubble from the site, rather than slopo-511 the basem~nts and
lcave walls intact. A good portion of the black is in basements, and hy dernolisliiaS these naw
and removing ~11 rubblo, we will be much clt-ser to acco~mplishing tha pccavation of the site
and preparing for construction. We can savc both time and money in the process_ If Stato~
follaws the enginal contraCt, the5- will be filling in holes and leavin$ up walls tlu~t the
eaccavation contractor will then have to comc in and excavate_ This see~ms very w~stefi~l to ow
team.
A cost estimate from Staton to go s~head now and demolish the basement walls and removt all
rubble is $50,OQ0 to $80,000. 'We btlie~re this should be cansidered extra work, and t~te
contract should be amcnded to accomplish this chan8e• Oa behalf of our developrnent team,
we are seeku-S F"TA's cancurrence with this amendm~.
