-4- <br />C. Hazard Mitigation: <br />A(a). Injury f rom sharp debris will be controlled through the <br />use of appropriate protective gloves, and the exercising <br />of reasonable caution during work operations involving <br />the handling of sharp objects. <br />A(b~). Fall injuries will be minimized by maintaining an orderly <br />~ work site, and~marking, or otherwise delineating, all <br />potential tripping hazards and edges of open excavations. <br />A(c). All overhead electrical lines in the wark area will be <br />located prior to the beginning of work. At least 10 ft <br />clearance will be maintained at all times. A spotter <br />will be used in situations where inadvertent contact with <br />an overhead line is possible. <br />A(d). All personnel on the job site are expected to watch for, <br />and give right-of-way to, moving excavation equipment and <br />vehicles. Excavation equipment operators will maintain <br />eye contact with vehicle drivers and/or spotters; hand <br />signals will be used between equipment operators, <br />drivers, and spotters. <br />All excavation equipment and vehicles on the job site <br />will have functioning backup alarms. <br />It is the responsibility of equipment operators and <br />drivers to determine, prior to moving, that no personnel <br />or other obstructions are in their path. <br />A(e). Appropriate gloves, outer clothing, f ace and eye <br />protection will be worn during all torch cutting <br />operations. <br />B(a). Exposure to chemical contaminants will be controlled <br />through the use of appropriate personal protective <br />equipment, and specified work/hygiene practices. No <br />eating, drinking, or smoking will be allowed in the work <br />area. A break area will be set up adjacent to the work <br />area; workers will undergo any necessary ~decontamination <br />procedures, and remove any protective equipment, prior to <br />eating, drinking~ smoking, or using bathroom facilities. <br />
