We are recommending that <br />you use the rubble-ballast method shown for shoring the walls. This method has worked <br />well for us in the past, especially where the floor remains in place to address sliding action. <br />The passive pressure capability of the ballasted fills is more than adequate to address <br />overturning due to lateral ~ active soil pressures from the soil side of the wall . We rec- <br />ommend allowing for gravity-draining water through holes punched in the walls at inter- <br />vals to reduce of the possibility of developing hydraulic pressure on the wall. <br />This method is friendly to life safety issues, as the vertical grade changes requiring barri- <br />cading and fall protection are eliminated.
