Plans should indicate the floor or landing on each side of <br /> doors is not more than 1/2 inch lower than the threshold of <br /> the doorway in buildings required to be accessible to the <br /> physically handicapped. Sec, 1109.9.5 <br />9, Handles. pulls, latches, locks and other operating devices <br /> on doors, windows, cabinets, plumbing fixtures and storage <br /> facilities shall have lever or other shape permitting <br /> operation by wrist or arm pressure and not requiring tight <br /> grasping, pinching or twisting to operate. The hallway leading to the accessible restroom, needs to be <br /> a minimum of 42 inches in width when access to the door open <br /> ing hardware is as shown on the plans, hinge side approach. <br /> ADAAG figure 25 on page 1-134-45 of the UBC for additional <br /> clarification. <br />11. Grab bars shall be installed on walls at one side and the <br /> back of the water closet, The top of grab bars shall not <br /> be less than 33 inches and not more than 36 inches above <br /> and parallel to the floor, Grab bars located on the <br /> closest side shall be a minimum 42 inches long with the <br /> front end positioned not less than 24 inches in front of <br /> the water closet. Grab bars located at the back shall be a <br /> minimum of 36 inches long.
