Approval of submitted plans is not an approval of omissions <br /> or oversights by this office or of noncompliance with any <br /> applicable regulations of local government. <br />4. A one-hour fire-resistive occupancy separation is required <br /> between the garage and the house, All openings in the <br /> separation shall be protected by a fire assembly having a <br /> one-hour fire-protection rating. <br />5. Walls and floors separating dwelling units in the same <br /> building shall be of not less than one-hour fire-resistive <br /> construction. <br /> 6, Draft stops shall be installed in the attics, mansards. <br /> overhangs, false fronts set out from walls and similar <br /> concealed spaces of apartments and motels. Such draft <br /> stops shall be above and in line with walls separating <br /> individual dwelling units and guest rooms from each other <br /> and from other uses. <br /> 7, Sleeping rooms require at least one operable exterior <br /> window or door approved for emergency escape or rescue and <br /> providing a net clear opening of not less than 5.7 sq. ft. <br /> The minimum net clear opening height dimension shall be 24 <br /> inches. The minimum net clear width dimension shall be 20 <br /> inches. When windows are provided as a means of escape or <br /> rescue, they shall have a finished sill height of not more <br /> than 44 inches above the floor. <br />8, The rise of every step in a stairway shall be not less than <br /> 4 lnches nor greater than 7 inches. The run shall be not <br /> less than 11 inches as measured horizontally between the <br /> vertical planes of the furthermOst projection of adjacent <br /> treads. The largest tread run or riser height within any <br /> flight of stairs shall not exceed the smallest by more than <br /> 3/8 inch. <br />9. Stairways shall have handrails on each side. The hand grip <br /> portion of handrails shall be not less than i 1/2 inches <br /> nor more than 2 inches in cross-sectional dimension or the <br /> shape shall provide an equivalent gripping surface. <br /> Handrails shall be between 34 and 38 inches above the <br /> nosing of treads. They shall be continuous the full length <br /> of the stairs, Ends shall extend not less than 6 inches <br /> beyond the top and bottom risers and be returned or <br /> terminate in newel posts or safety terminals. <br />10. SMOKE DETECTORS shall be installed in each sleeping room, <br /> outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate <br /> vicinity of the bedrooms and on each additional story of the <br /> dwelling including basements. All detectors located outside <br /> sleeping rooms shall be interconnected such that the <br /> actuation of one alarm wlll actuate these alarms in the <br /> individual unit and shall provide an alarm which will be <br /> audible in all sleeping areas. Smoke detectors shall be <br /> 110 volt with batter back-up. <br />11. SMOKE D~TECTOR / POWER. In new construction, the required <br /> smoke detectors shall receive their primary power from the <br /> bullding wiring when such wiring is served from a commercial <br /> source, and when primary power is interrupted, shall receive <br /> power from a battery, Wiring shall be permanent and not <br /> switched, Smoke detectors shall be permitted to be battery <br /> operated when installed in existing buildings without <br /> commercial power or in buildings which undergo alterations. <br /> <br /> <br />
