THE STRUCTURAL SUPPORTS for decks, balconies, porches or similar structures shall be pressure-treated wood to protect against decay. [Sec. 322,1] 5. GROUND CLEARANCE. Wood s~ding, sheathing and wall framing on the exterior of a building having a clearance of less than 6 inches to the ground shall be pressure treated or decay resistant heartwood of redwood, black locust, or cedar, [Sec. 322.1(5)] 6. EVERY SLEEPING ROOM shall have at least one openable window or exterior door approved for emergency egress or rescue. The window sill height shall not be more than 44 inches above the floor. The minimum net clear opening is 5.7 square feet. The minimum net clear opening height shall be 22 inches. The minimum net clear opening width shall be 20 inches. Exception: Grade floor windows may have a minimum net clear opening of 5 square feet, [Sec. 310.2, 210.2.1] 7. SMOKE DETECTORS / ALTERATIONS. When alterations, repairs or additions requiring a permit occur, or when sleeping rooms are added or created, the entire building shall be provided with smoke detectors located as required for new dwellings: the smoke detectors shall be interconnected and hard wired. EXCEPTION: Detectors shall not be required to be inter- connected and hard wired where the alterations, repairs, or additions do not result in the exposure of electrical wiring by the removal of interior wall and ceiling finishes. SMOKE DETECTORS shall be installed in each sleeping room. outside of each separate sleeping area in the immediate vicinity of the bedrooms and on each additional story of the dw~lling including basements. All detectors located outside sleeping rooms shall be interconnected such that the actuation of one alarm will actuate these alarms in the individual unqt and shall provide an alarm which will be audible in all sleeping areas.
