Parking spaces for disabled people shall be at least nine <br /> feet wide and shall have an adjacent eight foot van access <br /> aisle (six foot minimum where other required van accessible <br /> aisles provided), The aisle shall be located on the <br /> passenger side of the parking space except that two <br /> adjacent parking spaces may share an aisle. No ramp may <br /> extend into the parking space or the aisle. The aisle <br /> shall have a running slope no greater than 1 vertical in 50 <br /> horizontal, Parking spaces and access aisles shall be <br /> firm, stable, smooth and slip resistant. A sign shall be posted for each accessible parking space. <br /> The sign shall be clearly visible to a person parking in <br /> the space and marked with the international symbol of <br /> accessibility: indicate that the spaces are reserved for <br /> persons with disabled person parking permits: and be <br /> designed to standards adopted by the Oregon Transportation <br /> Commission. The pavement of each accessible parking space <br /> shall be clearly marked with the international symbol of <br /> accessibility to standards adopted by the Oregon <br /> Transportation Commission. (1104 & ORS 447.222 (e & fl) <br />5, Handles. pulls, latches, locks and other operating devices <br /> on doors, windows, cabinets, plumbing fixtures and storage <br /> facilities shall have lever or other shape permitting <br /> operation by wrist or arm pressure and not requiring tight <br /> grasping, pinching or twisting to operate. Alerations made to the path of travel to an altered area <br /> may be deemed disproportionate to the overall alteration to <br /> v~qen the cost exceeds 25 ~ of the alteration.(111,3.1.1) <br />7. The rise of every step in a stairway shall be not less than <br /> 4 inches nor greater than 7 inches. The run shall be not <br /> less than 11 inches as measured horizontally between the <br /> vertical planes of the furthermost projection of adjacent <br /> treads. The largest tread run or riser height within any <br /> flight of stairs shall not exceed the smallest by more than <br /> 3/8 inch. (3206(c)) <br />8. Stairways shall have handrails on each side. The hand grip <br /> portion of handrails shall be not less than 1 1/2 inches <br /> nor more than 2 inches in cross-sectional dimension or the <br /> shape shall provide an equivalent gripping surface. <br /> Handrails shall be between 34 and 38 inches above the <br /> nosing of treads. They shall be continuous the full length <br /> of the stairs. Ends shall extend not less than 6 inches <br /> beyond the top and bottom risers and be returned or <br /> terminate in newel posts or safety terminals.
