Upper Arm Day Use Area

Septic System Design Criteria
and
Operation Guide

Back(~rounq Infgrmatlon'.

In order to have flush toilets at the Upper Arm Day Use Area, we are
required to have an adequate septic system and replacement system which will
handle the wastewater. We (the Federal Government) must follow the regulations
set by the State and County. Because of our unusual wastewater situations, no
accurate Icad design data is available. Therefore, the system design incorporates
monitoring of the water usage and drain field performance which not only insures
the system is working but also provides us data for futLIre designs.

S¥ s,.t.e m:
The system consists of
- Restroom Building with 4 toilets, 2 sinks, & 1 urinal
- 1500 gal, septic tank
- 1000 gal. septic tank (for Host Site)
~ 2 inspection pipes for monitoring
-approx. 400' of drain line.

The replacement system consists of the above system plus - 1000 gal, dosing tank (with pump)
- 24' x 24.' sand fitter

~;)_peratfo n~,
1, Determine the peak flows from water meter monitoring.

One day per weekend and on all Holidays wastewater levels in
the inspection pipes shall be measured and recorded at peak
flows.

A copy of the Data Reports should be sent to the Facility
Engineering Department at the Supervisors Office and Marion
County if requested,

If standing water in the inspection pipe is maintained at a
significant level for 24 hours, immediately contact the District
Recreation Assistant for closure procedures.

The replacement system shall be constructed in accordance
with the County Sanitarians recommendations.
