This would be engineered of
course, with sprinkler system. This would be allowed for the Type VB construction and based on our discussions
meet the written requirements of the code.
Our proposed alternate method is the currently designed configuration of the skylight system. As the application
form states, the provisions of the code are not intended to prevent a method of construction not specifically
prescribed by the code. We offer that the alternate method is, in our professional opinion, equivalent in all
respects regarding safety of the building occupants, which is what we all care about. We do not see any aspects of
the alternate method that are less safe than the intent of the code.
We submit this will all due respect and wish to formally request the alternate method we have discussed verbally.
We believe on all counts that the alternate method is more safe and effective and meeting the intent of the code
including limited area for the plastic skylight(coverage issue), minimizing risk to maintenance staff on the roof
(curb issue), and limiting the amount of combustible materials and overhead structure overall (fuel load and
overhead structure).-
We respectfully request consideration of the alternate method request.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Kent R.
